FASTag – January 15, FASTags will become mandatory on all National Highways for toll payment.

The federal government extended the date from December 1 to 15.
The particular initiative by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is aim to reduce bottlenecks on roads across the country.
National Highway Authority of Indian and the road transport ministry have already implemented the FASTag payment option on 600 plus toll plaza across the country.

What is FASTag?
FASTag is a prepaid label affixed on the vehicle’s windscreen that allows programmed deductions of toll charges and allows all cars to move through the toll plaza without stopping for a cash transaction.
How FASTag works?
Being a vehicle passes through a toll plaza, the FASTag reader installed overhead reads the RFID computer code on a sticker on the windshield and deducts the necessary amount.
Also, it allows a vehicle to pass without ending. SMS alerts received for every transaction.
How to Buy FASTag Online?
Many banks, e-commerce websites, and e-wallets are selling online.
These include ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, SBI Bank, Axis Bank, Syndicate Bank.
Federal Bank, Karur Vysya Bank, South Indian Bank, Saraswat Bank, Equitas Bank, IDFC Bank, Paytm, Amazon India, Airtel app plus more.
Though the road transport and highways authority ministry have approached the Reserve Bank of India.
To exempt those acquiring FASTags from the ‘know your customer’ (KYC) norm.
Typically the ministry’s move is directed at making immediate issuance of smart tags possible even near toll entrances.
